The Port of Nacala is one of the deepest and most efficient ports on Africa's eastern coast, operating 24 hours a day without tidal restrictions.

Infrastructure prepared for demanding operations

Technical capacity, specialized equipment, and natural conditions that strengthen the logistics efficiency of the Port of Nacala.

Equipment

  • Two QGC units (quay gantry cranes) with 41-ton capacity.
  • Three loading arms at the liquid bulk terminal.
  • Eight RTG units (gantry cranes) with 41-ton capacity.
  • Eight 16m3 automatic grabs for bulk handling.
  • General cargo terminal: 2x25-ton forklifts.
  • 4 grabs of 16m3 + 2 grabs of 8m3 + 3 grabs of 3m3.
  • 4 hoppers of 25m3 + 4 hoppers of 18m3.
  • Total handling capacity of 2,400,000 tons per year.

Vessels

From 2014 to 2023, demand for tankers has steadily increased as a result of improved terminal facilities and higher demand for fuel and vegetable oil imports.

Cargo

Over the last five years, the liquid bulk terminal has recorded significant growth in national fuel imports, particularly with increased tank storage capacity and the commissioning of the new Camel Oil terminal, with 46,200-ton storage capacity.

Port of Nacala Characteristics

  • North Quay: Total length of 710m, with a dedicated container berth (400m, 14m draft), one liquid bulk berth (10m draft), and one multipurpose berth. Includes a 4,000m2 warehouse with 9,000-ton capacity.
  • South Quay: Total length of 372m, with two berths that accommodate vessels up to 200m. Maximum draft of -14m at low tide.
